July 12’th

I haven’t been posting while I work through all the uncertainty of travel during Covid. Well everything is a go!

All provinces are requesting no non essential travel. Key wording “requesting”. That is an evolution from the forbidding.

Park pass received.
Lot booked
Camping gear inspected and replaced as required.
Bear spray and bangers purchased

I have been watching the Banff / Jasper / Yoho New Bulletin pages. https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ab/banff/bulletins

Much of the parks is under heavy restrictions. Back country hikes must be groups of 4 and have bear spray. Wolf issues all over Banff park.

This is going to be an adventure.

Not quite “Into the Wild” , but for a 60 yr old, it sure deals like it.

Less than 3 weeks to go.

Plans

Well. I’m not so sure this is going to be a good idea. I have begun to inventory all my gear. I have a few gaps which I hope Amazon will fill in time.

today was the day the parks were to open for reservations. Well they have. They are almost all booked. While I was reviewing the rules I came across a rule that I was unaware of. Non-essential travel is still being controlled. While Alberta still asks people to not travel, the real issue will be the Manitoba border. The one TC highway link has been shut off for everyone except those living NW of Terrace Bay. Ottawa is clearly not in this zone. It’s very unclear if I would be allowed to transit the province if I am headed to Alberta.

I will continue to monitor the disruption and hope for the best.

Setup the new tent to waterproof and ensure I have mastered the setup

The Summer of Covid

This is a big year. I have outlived both my parents age. I have not felt old until now. This is the one birthday I never ever thought I would see.

Well… it looks like I have made it.

I am planning on a solo trip to revisit many of the spots from when I was in my teens. We travelled West on motor bikes in our teens. I have been back a few times with friends and coworkers. The Canadian Rockies has always pulled at my heart strings. God and health willing, I will post my trip updates here.

I am feeling odd about travelling solo during a Covid pandemic. Not sure if I will be allowed where I want to go, or if there will be any services available where I am going. This should be an adventure
